Find the liar。 Find the killer 。 。 。

Amelia White didn't expect her career as a reporter to start like this: by finding a young woman's body, just around the corner from her Shepherd's Bush bedsit。

With rumours already spreading about this poor murder victim, she seizes her chance to write the true story。

But when more bodies are found, the police are baffled。

Reporting on the story, Amelia meets witnesses as well as suspects。 If she can only work out who the liar among them is, she may be able to stop the murders。

Or might she turn herself into the next victim? 。 。 。

I haven't read any of Lesley Pease's books before so I don't know where this fits in her writing history or her style。 As a one-off, I found the journey of the protagonist fascinating and insightful and the murder mysteries were well crafted to keep my interest。 I don't ask for much more from this style of novel - and Ms Pearse ticked the boxes。 I haven't read any of Lesley Pease's books before so I don't know where this fits in her writing history or her style。 As a one-off, I found the journey of the protagonist fascinating and insightful and the murder mysteries were well crafted to keep my interest。 I don't ask for much more from this style of novel - and Ms Pearse ticked the boxes。 。。。more

She has a way of intertwining family drama and mystery harmoniously。 It's set in 1970s London and you can tell the author really did her research here, I felt like I was being plonked right in the middle of the era with the flower power of the 60s fading away, power cuts, continual strikes, the fashions, music, Vietnam War and more。 Our female protagonist is strong yet also vulnerable。 Pearse really has a talent for writing strong, independent and badass female leads so can't wait to read her other books!!Okay now let's talk about the mystery。 It was a little bit of a slow burn in the first half but then in the last 150 pages or so it all went down and I predicted the ending a little but I just couldn't put it down! I was so attached to the story and the characters I needed to know how it all turned out, there was so much suspense。 It really gave me Jack the Ripper serial killer vibes as I was reading (until I got to the end and all was revealed 😂)。 If you're looking for a thriller with family drama undercurrents then I'd definitely reccomend this book。Thankyou so much to @michaeljbooks and @ed。pr for the arc to review。 。。。more

I was somewhat disappointed in this book as i was with the House Across the Street。 A bit over the top。 Poor Amelia。。 a lot happens to her!! I have read every single book of Lesley Pearse but feel these last two books a bit boring。

A well plotted story with good characterisation。 Another good read from a great author, plenty of twists and turns to keep you interested。 I have read a couple of her books and will certainly read more。

Not sure what it was about this book but I couldn’t get into it。 Maybe it was the time period but I thought the was the characters spoke wasn’t relatable。 The storyline also seemed a bit far fetched to me。

Got lost in the plot but didn’t warm to the characters of this book as much as all the other Lesley Pearse characters I’ve read。

I am proud to say that I have read all of Lesley Pearse's 27 novels and now her 28th。 Yet again, she has the ability to weave a wonderful story that I found hard to put down。 Set in the 1970's in London, Amelia finds herself thrust into a situation that becomes a news scoop for her。 With lots of intrigue, some crime and a touch of romance, this is another great read by Lesley。 I dropped a star because for some reason I didn't feel a connection with the characters until at least half way through I am proud to say that I have read all of Lesley Pearse's 27 novels and now her 28th。 Yet again, she has the ability to weave a wonderful story that I found hard to put down。 Set in the 1970's in London, Amelia finds herself thrust into a situation that becomes a news scoop for her。 With lots of intrigue, some crime and a touch of romance, this is another great read by Lesley。 I dropped a star because for some reason I didn't feel a connection with the characters until at least half way through the book - not sure why - but I felt like I was watching from the outside in and not right in the middle of a story like I like to be! This was another great book by Ms。 Pearse。 This one takes place in 1970 London and there is a serial killer on the loose and our plucky heroine is in the mix as a newly minted reporter on the trail of both the killer and finding real love and what that truly means。 Highly readable and a quick one too。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Interesting story about a girl with a troubled childhood who escapes her past trying to live a better future, which she eventually achieved while trying to solve a murder。One down side to the story is it’s weak cohesion。。 Like which murder would be carrying their murder weapons with them in a bag 。。 like a pipe in bag ? Really I just didn’t find it too convincing。。 like the author wanted to throw everything at you and finish the story lol Overall。 It was a good read

I adore Lesley Pearse。 She’s my absolutely favourite。 I have been enjoying her new books, they’re good, likeable characters, involving plots。 But I just don’t think they’re as good as her older books (mostly the ones with names in the title)

The book, a work of fiction, is supposed to be a thriller。 The author did attempt to make it one but there was really not much suspense in the book。 The book certainly wasn't a page turner and it seemed more like drama than thriller。 I also didn't quite like how the book jumped from one scene to another without a new chapter or new section within the chapter。 One moment you were reading someone's thoughts, the next, it's describing someone else without a proper flow。 Lesley has written several b The book, a work of fiction, is supposed to be a thriller。 The author did attempt to make it one but there was really not much suspense in the book。 The book certainly wasn't a page turner and it seemed more like drama than thriller。 I also didn't quite like how the book jumped from one scene to another without a new chapter or new section within the chapter。 One moment you were reading someone's thoughts, the next, it's describing someone else without a proper flow。 Lesley has written several books but Liar is the only book I have read by her and I am not even encouraged to read the others。 If she was any better in writing her other books, then she might just be running out of creative juice。 The book isn't entirely bad and I give it 3/5 stars but I have definitely read better。 。。。more

Its ok as a night time readEasy enough to read but I found it a very lightweight plot。 Guessed it almost from the beginning。 Not her best!

What has happened to her style of writing!? Was so looking forward to this, and although I loved it was set in the 70s, I really felt like I was reading something written for children。 The plot was also weak, and unbelievable。 Very disappointing。

Wow this author just gets better and better。 So many twists and turns it had me gripped to the end。 Read it in 24 hours

I’m just laying this out from the outset。 Lesley Pearse is a favourite author of mine, I own everything she has ever written in at least physical, if not ebook too, and she is one of only a handful of authors whose books I have re-read more than once。 Quite simply put, I love her books。Set in 1970s London, Liar, sees aspiring journalist, Amelia White make a grisly discovery when she finds the body of a young woman。 Her unique position allows her access to the girl’s family, and this leads her to I’m just laying this out from the outset。 Lesley Pearse is a favourite author of mine, I own everything she has ever written in at least physical, if not ebook too, and she is one of only a handful of authors whose books I have re-read more than once。 Quite simply put, I love her books。Set in 1970s London, Liar, sees aspiring journalist, Amelia White make a grisly discovery when she finds the body of a young woman。 Her unique position allows her access to the girl’s family, and this leads her to become deeply embroiled in an unofficial investigation fueled by her ambition。Amelia is a character to champion。 Damaged by an awful childhood and left hiding from life, the events of the novel take her on a journey of self realisation。 There are the usual ‘read through your finger’ moments as she makes some questionable decisions, but I found myself completely and utterly in her corner。 There is a certain magic Lesley Pearse weaves throughout her books, I don’t think there is any other author I have come across who is able to draw me into a story so quickly。 I find her writing style to be so welcoming to a reader, accessible, open and compelling。 Her characters are ones you want to succeed, and I become so pulled into their world, that my own world melts away as I read。 I know without doubt that it is her uncanny ability to pluck me from own surroundings that has called me revisit her books time and time again。I’ve noted a shift in more recent novels, away from the earlier, more character-centric novels to more plot focused novels and whilst the author always excels in storytelling, I have noticed that my connection with the characters hasn’t been quite as strong。 However, both Liar and her last novel, You’ll Never See Me Again have, in my opinion, been evidence of a beautifully successful merging of both styles, creating unforgettable characters who have stayed with me。Liar entranced me from the first page, and had me reading into the early hours of the morning, so invested that there was no need to force myself to stay awake – I just had to know what happened next。 Read during lockdown, it has been the perfect antidote to all the anxiety I’ve been feeling。 There is something so comforting about spending time with the work of an author you love。If you haven’t tried a Lesley Pearse book before – where have you been? Never boring and beautifully told – the words for how highly I recommend her books simply do not exist。 。。。more
